Butler Nero, on crutches, Charles Hill, hooded sweatshirt and Robert Frederick, drink beer and talk about their neighborhood. Nero used to work at Augusta as part of a cleaning company that shampooed the carpets. Despite Augusta National's proximity to them, the three feel little connection to the world's most prestigious golf club.

  • Frank Carpenter was the Cellar Master at Augusta National as well as the man who gave the green jacket to the previous years winner (who would then present it to the winner). He is now retired and spends his afternoons at J.R.'s Stop and Shop, a small market bordering the projects in Augusta where many an old timer and locals gather to gossip. Frank is fond of singing jazz tunes while passing the time of day.

  • State Senator Charles Walker, a larger than life figure in Augusta, GA. Among other things, he is very wealthy and throws the "must go to" party for African Americans every year during Augusta National week. He hosts around 300 guests at his home.

  • Roscoe Wiliams, executive assistant to the president of Paine College in Augusta, Georgia.  Williams once worked for Augusta National co-founder Clifford Roberts for one week where his job consisted of mixing drinks for him for 8 hrs a day while Clifford played solitaire. When the job was over, Clifford asked Williams to throw away a box of magazines. Williams decided to keep the thirty, first edition Sports Illustrateds that came in a hard cover. He is seen holding one of those first editions.

  • Clyde Lester  is a fixture in Augusta where he has his own call-in radio show about gardening. He is also a retired county extension agent who hosts a tv show about western movies. He has a vast collection of western collectibles in his Augusta home, including toy cap guns. He has held various positions during the Masters.

His customers are mostly poor and black, far different from the scene played out only miles away at the Masters where wealth prevails and the black players account for a very small percentage of golfers.
