Mary Bauer of Southern Poverty Law Center talks Saria Brito, 16, who had been in line seeking asylum at the San Ysidro Port of Entry for 3 weeks. She fled gang violence after her father was killed by gang members.

Migrants mostly from Honduras and Guatemala fleeing gang violence and death threats traveled nearly a month before arriving in Tijuana, Mexico where they planned to seek asylum at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Migrants must get their name on the list managed by another migrant and wait to be called. The wait can take months. Thousands of names were already on the list as thousands of more migrants have arrived in recent days.
