Charlie Beach, situated along the Santa Monica Bay adjacent to Ballona Creek which carries water from the Santa Monica Mountains where the Palisades Fire destroyed thousands of homes, is covered in fire debris, ash and polluted water after a heavy rainstorm two days earlier.
Sanderlings, a type of sandpiper shorebird, forages through ash from the fires.
LA County Department of Public Health warned people to avoid a significant stretch of coastline in Palisades Fire ravaged area after rains caused serious runoff into nearby Pacific ocean and beaches.
"Fire debris runoff and pollutants in the water and on the sand may contain toxic or carcinogenic chemicals," the department’s press release said.
