Charlie Hanger was the Oklahoma State Trooper who stopped Timothy McVeigh less than two hours after the bombing of the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. Hanger was on patrol and noticed an expired registration tag and pulled McVeigh over for the violation. At the time he stopped him, McVeigh was not a suspect or someone law enforcement was looking for. However, Hanger, on alert due to the bombing, had McVeigh exit the vehicle and asked for his drivers license. It was then that Hanger noticed what seemed to be an outline of a gun on the suspect. Hanger drew his own weapon and ultimately took him into custody and booked him for carrying a concealed weapon. Days later when federal authorities identified McVeigh as a suspect in the bombing, they located him already in jail.
