Los Angeles suffered a major emergency after fires broke out across the region that will leave a mark on the enviroment for years to come.
Charlie Beach along the Santa Monica Bay, adjacent to Ballona Creek that carries water from the Santa Monica Mountains where the Palisades Fire destroyed thousands of homes, is covered in fire debris, ash and polluted water after a heavy rainstorm two days earlier carried runoff from the Palisades Fire into the ocean.
LA County Department of Public Health warned people to avoid a significant stretch of coastline in Palisades Fire ravaged area after rains caused serious runoff into nearby Pacific ocean and beaches.
"Fire debris runoff and pollutants in the water and on the sand may contain toxic or carcinogenic chemicals," the department’s press release said.
